ATHOME
The couple enlisted the help of stylist
Michael Walters in designing a smaller space
that is comfortable (and durable) enough for
kids yet sophisticated enough for grown-ups.
For Carole, the move also meant “stepping
out of my comfort zone” in terms of style.
“I’m a traditionalist, at least I always have
been,” she says. When Walters suggested
a sleek white sofa to give the living room
a more urban feel, Carole worried that it
wouldn’t be practical. But she discovered
that the microfibrc upholstery is more than
a match for sticky little fingers. Positioning a
flat-screen TV over the fireplace was another
tough sell for the couple, since Carole
previously kept her electronics hidden.
NATURE INSPIRED
A butterfly print,
left,
captivated Carole and
inspired the room’s warm
orange and brown accents.
FAIR FURNITURE
Because the living and
dining areas are one open
space,
below,
the furniture
needs to look good from
every angle.

SHOPPING SAVVY
Recycling upholstery is a
great economical move.
Stylist Michael Walters
used a fabric remnant
on chair backs to create
a high-end custom look
for “next to nothing”.
